It's been nerdy couple of days

It's no secret that two of my personality traits are I am obsessive and I'm a bona fide techy nerd.  These past couple weeks have been a prime example of this.  Not long ago, we finally got legitimate, big boy, grownup internet at our place.  So if it is wifi capable and it's in our house, you bet your ass, it's on the internet.  We've got two Blackberrys, a Nintendo Wii, Sara's laptop, and as of yesterday, my new netbook sucking up every little bit of bandwidth we can muster up.

Sara has had her Blackberry for a year now and she swears by it.  I too wanted a Blackberry when we got our new phones a year ago but like so many, I got swept up in the iPhone fever.  Now don't get me wrong, I really dug the iPhone, but my sister bought the Blackberry Torch 9800 a month or so ago and hated it.  So as an act of kindness and to feed my technology tapeworm, I traded her my iPhone for the Torch.  This thing is truly one of the coolest pieces of equipment I've ever had the pleasure of owning.  Some of the big selling point are the combination of the full touch screen and the slide out QWERTY keyboard.  It also has a neat Social Feeds app that condenses all of my facebook friends status updates, people I follow on twitter, and the 937 Reds RSS feeds that I religiously read into one abbreviated feed.  It's a handy time saving feature that eliminates the need to open facebook, twitter, and my igoogle homepage 27 times a day.
I mentioned earlier that I got a new netbook.  More on that in a moment.  While messing with loading my BB onto the netbook today, I came across a BB feature called WIFI Music Sync.  This feature ties your iTunes or Windows Media Player music libraries to your phone without syncing the entire catalog to the device.  You just open the music player on the BB and it shows your entire music library, select the songs you want on the device and click download.  The best part is it does over a wifi connection so no need for the USB cable.

On to the netbook.  Since the addition of the wifi at the house, our regular tv habits have been replaced by streaming netflix on the Wii and my wife's addiction to hulu.  I don't believe hulu can be streamed on the Wii so Sara has rocking the hulu on the laptop.  There have been a few times that I have wanted to do some interneting and the laptop has been unavailable.  So I thought to myself that I would look into a tablet or a netbook.  We stopped in a Radio Shack yesterday and they were having a sale in celebration of the presidents of our great country.  Now usually when I'm going to make a purchase like this it is preceded by days of internet research on every possible option.  And ultimately I end up talking myself out of buying anything.  But the stars must've been in alignment and Mars was in retrograde with Jupiter or something.  I got a great price on exactly what I wanted with no Consumer Reports or CNET review forums.  It's an Acer Aspire One D255E.  It has an Atom N455 processor, 1 GB of ram, and a 160 GB hard drive.  Best of all it's two inches thick and weighs only 2.5 lbs.

It's been a great couple of tech-nerd weeks in the Michael household.  Oh and I forgot to mention that I have networked both computers into a homegroup and we can wirelessly print from any room in the house.

Sad as it may seem, I think it's pretty damn cool.
